AMMAN, January 12, 2025 (WAFA) – Jordan’s King Abdullah II has emphasized the urgent need to halt Israel's "genocidal war" in Gaza and warned of the dangers posed by ongoing attacks on holy sites in Jerusalem.
The Jordanian King made these remarks on Sunday during a meeting in Amman with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, who is on an official visit to the kingdom, according to a statement from the Royal Court.
The statement highlighted the King’s call for an end to the war in Gaza and for bolstering humanitarian responses to the crisis.
King Abdullah also expressed appreciation for Pope Francis' stance supporting efforts to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s population.
Additionally, the monarch warned of the risks associated with continued Israeli violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Cardinal Parolin thanked the King for his support and care for the Christian presence in Jordan.
As part of his visit, Cardinal Parolin attended the inauguration of the Latin Baptism Church at the Baptism Site on Friday. The church was built on land allocated by King Abdullah specifically for this purpose.
