RABAT, December 21, 2024 (WAFA) — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez today urged the international community to recognize Palestine as a state and work towards granting it full membership in the United Nations, while calling for an end to the Israeli occupation.
Sánchez made the remarks during his participation in the Socialist International Conference, held in Rabat, Morocco, from Friday to Sunday. Speaking at the event, he emphasized the importance of achieving a "just and comprehensive peace" in the Middle East, stressing that global efforts must be unified to address the escalating crises in various regions, particularly in Palestine.
"We must end the Israeli occupation and enable the Palestinian people to establish their independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, within the framework of a two-state solution," Sánchez declared. He also highlighted the urgent need to end the suffering of the Palestinian people, calling for an end to the blockade and restrictions on civilian life.
The Socialist International Conference, which brings together socialist and social democratic parties from across the world, serves as a platform for promoting democracy, reducing inequalities, and strengthening solidarity to achieve peace and stability.
The organization was founded in 1923 in Germany and re-established in its current form in 1951, currently comprising around 162 parties and organizations worldwide.
