Israel issues new and renewed administrative detention orders against 42 Palestinians

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, August 28, 2024 (WAFA) - The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) and the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said that the occupation authorities issued new and renewed administrative detention orders against 42 Palestinian detainees, including a female university student.

In a statement released today, PPS and the commission said that the number of administrative detainees has reached more than 3,432 since the beginning of 2024.

PPS and the Commission published the names of detainees who received new and renewed detention orders, without charge or trial.

The period of the detentions varied between three to six months.

Israel’s widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.

“Israel‘s use of administrative detention blatantly violates the restrictions of international law. Israel carries it out in a highly classified manner that denies detainees the possibility of mounting a proper defense,” says Israeli human rights group B’Tselem.
