Over 40 Palestinian prisoners released from Israeli prisons show signs of torture

RAMALLAH, Friday, August 23, 2024 (WAFA) -- Late last night, Israeli occupation authorities released more than 40 Palestinian prisoners from the occupied West Bank who had completed their sentences, including a number of administrative detainees who had been held without charges or trial.

The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) reported that some of those released suffer from skin diseases, particularly those released from the Naqab Prison. Naqab Prison has been notorious for its involvement in torture, as evidenced by numerous testimonies documented by several rights organizations.

Initial photos of the released detainees reveal the severe impact of their mistreatment, including the systematic starving of the prisoners and the deprivation of food. Many were transferred to hospitals immediately after their release.

In contrast, Israel continues its daily detention campaigns. Since October 7, over 10,200 individuals have been detained in the West Bank, with thousands more from Gaza.

As of early August, the total number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails exceeded 9,900, not including detainees from Gaza held in military camps.
