Occupation authorities force Palestinian family to demolish home in occupied Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, Saturday, August 17, 2024 (WAFA) — Israeli occupation authorities have compelled the Jadallah family to demolish their own home in the neighborhood of al-Issawiya in occupied Jerusalem.

According to Umm Samer Jadallah, a member of the family, her son had just completed building his apartment two months ago, with plans to marry and start a family. However, an administrative demolition order issued by Israeli occupation authorities forced him to tear down the newly constructed apartment.

Speaking to our correspondent, Umm Samer revealed that her son was left with no choice but to demolish the apartment adjacent to their home to avoid substantial fines estimated at around 250,000 shekels.

As a matter of fact, Israeli authorities routinely coerce Palestinian citizens, particularly in occupied Jerusalem, into self-demolishing their homes citing lack of permits. Those who refuse face the prospect of Israeli bulldozers demolishing their homes and imposing exorbitant fines on the owners.

Of note, the all-Israeli municipality in Jerusalem consistently denies building permits to Palestinian citizens, opting instead to demolish their homes or compel them to do so, actions that contradict international law.

These practices are part of Israel's policies aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians from Jerusalem to expand settlements in the city and its surroundings.
