RAMALLAH, Monday, June 24, 2024 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation court renewed the administrative detention for the second time against detainee Khalida Jarrar, 61, from the city of Ramallah, for a period of six months.
The 61-year-old politician has been detained numerous times and held in Israeli administrative detention, under which Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip are detained without charge or trial for a period of up to six months.
Jarrar was first detained in 1989 and held for a month without trial. In her second detention in 2014, she was sentenced to 15 months in prison. She was eventually released in February 2019, before being arrested again nine months later.
It is noteworthy that the occupation released Jarrar in 2021, and during her detention she lost her daughter and was deprived of saying goodbye to her. Jarrar also lost her father during her detention in 2017.
It is noteworthy that Khaleda Jarrar was born on February 9, 1963. She is a politician and left-wing feminist activist, a member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a member of the Legislative Council for the Front, and head of the Prisoners’ Committee in the Legislative Council.
Jarrar is active in the field of defending human rights, especially the rights of Palestinian detainees. She has also worked on publishing many researches in the field of violations of the rights of female detainees.
