Extremist colonists set up structures on Palestinian land east of Hebron, a prelude for takeover

HEBRON, Monday, June 17, 2024 (WAFA) – Extremist colonists tonight set up caravans and other structures on the territory of the town of Bani Na’im, east of Hebron.

WAFA correspondent said that armed groups of colonists set up wooden and tin sheds and residential caravans on a plot of land belonging to Bani Na’im town, in an apparent prelude to taking over the land for the benefit of colonial expansion.

More than 700,000 Israeli colonists currently reside in illegal West Bank settlements.

The establishment of the settlements contravenes international humanitarian law (IHL), which states that an occupying power may not relocate its own citizens to the occupied territory or make permanent changes to that territory unless these are needed for imperative military needs, in the narrow sense of the term, or undertaken for the benefit of the local population, said B’Tselem, the Israeli human rights organization.
