JENIN, Thursday, May 23, 2024 (WAFA) – Thousands of Palestinians gathered today in Jenin, north of the occupied West Bank, to mourn the 12 victims of the recent Israeli assault on the city and its refugee camp. The attack, which lasted over two days, resulted in significant casualties and extensive damage.
The funeral processions commenced from the Jenin Governmental Hospital, where the victims' bodies were paraded through the city's streets on the shoulders of mourners.
Participants in the funeral chanted slogans condemning the Israeli occupation and the continuous violence perpetrated in Gaza and the West Bank. Several speeches were delivered, denouncing the ongoing aggression and asserting that these atrocities would not deter the Palestinian people from resisting the occupation and settlers.
The Israeli military offensive into Jenin began on Tuesday morning and continued for over two days, resulting in the murder of 12 Palestinians and injuries to more than 20 others from live ammunition.
The assault left a trail of destruction, severely damaging infrastructure, including roads, electrical and water networks, sewage systems, commercial properties, vehicles, and vegetable stalls.
Additionally, Israeli forces bombed over 10 homes and completely demolished a two-story house belonging to the family of the martyr Ahmad Hani Barakat.
