GENEVA, Monday, May 20, 2024 (WAFA) - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said in a post on its X account that “safe and guaranteed humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip is fundamental to counter the critical shortage of water displaced families are facing - particularly now during high temperatures.”

“The health and lives of people depend on unimpeded access and an immediate ceasefire,” said the UN Relief Agency.

In another X post, UNRWA said: “The exodus continues in Gaza. UNRWA estimates over 810,000 people have fled Rafah in the past two weeks.”

“Every time families are displaced; their lives are at serious risk. People are forced to leave everything behind looking for safety. But there's no safe zone. Ceasefire Now.”

Since May 6, the occupation forces launched a ground offensive on eastern Rafah. The next day it occupied the Palestinian side of the Rafah Land Crossing, halting the flow of aid and preventing the sick and wounded from leaving the Strip for treatment abroad.

For the 14th consecutive day, the occupation forces continue to close the Rafah border crossing and Karm Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing in the southern Gaza Strip.
