GAZA, Thursday, May 9, 2024 (WAFA) – Eight Palestinians were killed and others were injured in Israeli airstrikes on the al-Barazil and Sabra neighbourhoods in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
Israeli warplanes targeted a mosque in al-Barazil neighborhood, south of the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, killing three and injuring several others.
In the Sabra neighbourhood, east of the city of Gaza, emergency and rescue teams retrieved the bodies of five Palestinians and four casualties from under the rubble of the Abu Sharia family’s house that collapsed after being targeted by Israeli artillery bombardment.
The search and rescue operation was still underway to search for ten people who are trapped under the rubble of the house.
The Israeli occupation army announced the launching of a new extended offensive in Gaza city’s Zeitoun neighborhood overnight for the second time since October 7, 2023, and fired barrages of missiles and shells at homes and buildings, killing and wounding dozens, and burying many more under the rubble.
Israel struck around 25 sites in the area before launching the offensive.
Palestinian journalists in the city reported the presence of Israeli tanks advancing into the neighbourhood, with many residents fleeing the area.
Tried before the International Court of Justice for genocide against Palestinians, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, killing at least 34,904 Palestinians and injuring over 78,514 others.
Moreover, at least 7,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
Palestinian and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.
The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.
