Israeli forces punitively detonate slain Palestinian’s family house in Jerusalem camp

JERUSALEM, Thursday, May 9, 2024 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation forces Thursday noon punitively detonated the family house of a slain Palestinian in the Shufat refugee camp, north of Jerusalem, according to local sources.

They said that a sizable occupation force barged its way into the camp, surrounded a 10-floor residential building, and occupied the rooftops of surrounding buildings to use them as firing posts.

They forced the building occupants out before proceeding to blow up the family house of Fadi Jamjoum, located on the eighth floor of the building, rendering his wife and four children homeless.

This came several hours after a large force of the occupation army raided Jamjoum’s family house and planted explosives in its walls in preparation for the demolition.

This forced local schools to shut down due to the Israeli military deployments and associated curfew.

On February 18, the occupation forces stormed Jamjoum’s family house and took measurements of it several hours after Jamjoum was gunned down for carrying out an attack in southern Israel that resulted in killing two Israelis and injuring four others.

The Jerusalem Governorate statistics show that during April the occupation authorities issued decisions, banning five Palestinians entry into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

They also show that nine demolitions and razing of Palestinian structures were carried out in Jerusalem in April.

Israel usually resorts to punitively demolishing the family homes of Palestinians accused of being involved in attacks against Israelis as a means of deterrence, a policy that Israel does not apply to Israeli settlers who were involved in fatal attacks against Palestinians.

The policy was widely condemned by human rights groups as “a collective punishment” and “a war crime and crime against humanity”.
