BETHLEHEM, Wednesday, May 8, 2024 (WAFA) – A Palestinian today self-demolished his four stores in the town of Nahalin, west of Bethlehem, according to a local source.
Mohammad Musallam said that the Israeli occupation forces forced him to self-demolish the stores, built on a five-donum plot of land, north of the southern West Bank town, after he was served a demolition notice and asked to pay a bond of 25,000 shekels (approximately $6,750).
He added that he had no choice but to embark on the demolition to avoid paying exorbitant fees to the occupation authorities should their crews carry out the demolition on their own. He estimated his losses resulting from tearing down an aluminum workshop, a car repair shop and a restaurant, at over 500,000 shekels (approximately $135,000).
