RAMALLAH, Wednesday, February 7, 2024 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates called on all countries that have suspended their funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), without awaiting the results of a United Nations investigation on the matter, to immediately reverse their decision for the good of the millions of Palestinians who rely heavily on the agency’s services.
The Ministry in a statement stressed that it does not find any justification for such a priori decisions. It slammed such decisions as political prejudice, especially after an investigation was initiated by the UN and after the UN Secretary-General António Guterres appointed an independent panel to conduct an assessment of the UN agency that assists Palestine refugees.
The ministry stressed that countries' insistence on suspending funding for UNRWA would have catastrophic effects on its ability to provide services to millions of Palestinian refugees, thus endangering their lives, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
