JORDAN VALLEY, Saturday, October 7, 2023 (WAFA) – Illegal Israeli settlers launched an attack today on Palestinian herders while they were tending to their livestock in the village of Khallet Makhoul in the northern Jordan Valley, northeast of the occupied West Bank, according to local sources.
Yousef Bsharat, a local Palestinian resident, said eight settlers assaulted him while he was grazing his sheep alongside his son east of the village. The Israeli attackers released dogs towards the livestock, causing panic among the herders.
Israeli occupation forces later intervened to protect the settlers and forced the herders to leave the area, he added.
This incident is not an isolated one, as herders in various parts of the Jordan Valley have been facing daily assaults and harassment from Israeli settlers. These attacks have been escalating significantly in recent times, raising concerns about the worsening tensions in the region.
Nearly 700,000 colonial Israeli settlers live in the occupied Palestinian territories in violation of international law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits the relocation of the occupying power’s civilian population to the lands of the occupied.
