RAMALAH, Monday, March 27, 2023 (WAFA) – The conflict in Israel, particularly Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu firing his defense minister, was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
“Netanyahu fires the defense minister and the opposition denounce it: a decision that harms Israel’s security,” was the main front-page headline in al-Ayyam daily.
“In a new and dangerous development, Netanyahu fires defense minister Galant,” was the main front-page headline in al-Quds daily.
The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, headlined its main front-page story with “Netanyahu sets Israel’s crisis ablaze.”
The three dailies reported on the wide-scale demonstrations throughout Israel and said that the police have raised the level of alert after losing control over the demonstrators as calls were made for a general strike throughout the country.
In other news, al-Hayat al-Jadida said a Palestinian family was able to escape being burnt alive after Israeli settlers set fire to its home in the town of Sinjil, near Ramallah.
It said the Palestinian presidency condemned the arson accusing Israel of escalating its war against the Palestinian people through killings, incineration, annihilation, and storming holy places.
It also said that foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council called in a letter to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to respond to the Israeli measures against the Palestinian people, particularly remarks by fascist cabinet minister Bezalel Smotrich in which he denied the existence of the Palestinian people, as reported in al-Ayyam daily.
The burning of the Palestinian house in Sinjil was also highlighted on the front page of al-Quds and al-Ayyam, which also said that the Israeli occupation authorities sealed off the town of Hawara, south of Nablus, and seized 281 dunums of Palestinian land east of Qalqilya.
Al-Ayyam said the Israeli army increased its measures around Hawara and settlers continued to provoke its Palestinian residents.
Al-Quds said that Israeli police broke into Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City during the night and forced Muslim worshippers to leave the holy compound it in order to clear the way for Jewish extremists to storm it in the morning.
It also said that Israel has removed the highly visible and golden Dome of the Rock mosque, which is part of Al-Aqsa Mosque, from a picture of the Western Wall.
It also said that Palestinians working for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza have declared a work dispute today against the administration.
