Newspaper Review: Israeli forces' and settlers' assaults on Palestinians focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Thursday, March 16, 2023 (WAFA) – News about the ognoing assaults prepertuated by Israeli forces and settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that Israeli settlers Wednesday morning destroyed dozens of perennial trees to the east of the occupied West Bank city of Salfit.

The papers also said that Israeli forces Wednesday assaulted a female employee at the Palestine Polytechnic University while she was on her way to the occupied West Bank city to Hebron.

Israeli forces Wednesday detained 21 Palestinians from several areas in the occupied West Bank, according to the dailies, which also added that Israeli forces sealed off Jaba‘ checkpoint, northeast of the occupied West Bank city of Jerusalem.

A number of Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian family in its tent near the village of Deir Jarir, east of Ramallah, and stole dozens of the family’s sheep, said the papers.

The papers said that Israeli settlers physically assaulted and injured two Palestinian youths in the town of Qarawat Bani Hassan to the west of Salfit in the north of the West Bank. The two youths were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

President Mahmoud Abbas received today at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah a delegation from the US Middle East Investment Initiative. The members of the delegation briefed President Abbas on the initiative, its objectives, and its projects, especially in Palestine, where the foundation provides support for Palestinian emerging projects by providing guarantees for loans, as reported in the dailies.

The General Supervisor of the Official Media, Minister Ahmed Assaf, said today the Palestinian media outlets operate amid tremendous challenges imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities, which amount to the killing of journalists, according to al-Hayat al-Jadida.
