Palestinian shops in Hebron were looted by Israeli settlers during last week's attacks - says committee

HEBRON, Sunday, February 26, 2023 (WAFA) – The Hebron Rehabilitation Committee revealed today that several shops belonging to Palestinian residents in the Old City of Hebron were looted during the attacks that were carried out by Israeli settlers against the Old City last week.

The committee, in a statement, said settlers raided three commercial shops belonging to Palestinians and robbed them.

One of the shop owners, Naser Abu Munshar, said a group of settlers last Friday used sharp tools to break into his shop from the backdoor, however, they ran off after the family was awakened by the digging noise.

Israeli settlers’ vandalism in the occupied West Bank is routine and is done with full backing by the Israeli authorities, said the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem.

“Settler violence and vandalism take place with full backing by the Israeli authorities. Sometimes soldiers take part in the assault; at other times, they stand idly by. The police make no substantial effort to investigate the incidents, nor takes measures to prevent them or stop them in real-time,” it said.

Israel benefits from the repercussions, as settler violence has gradually dispossessed Palestinians of more and more areas in the West Bank, paving the way for a state takeover of land and resources, said B’Tselem.
