Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight death of a Palestinian wounded earlier in Jenin during Israeli army raid

RAMALLAH, Monday, September 12, 2022 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today, al-Quds, al-Ayyam, and al-Hayat al-Jadida, highlighted the death of a Palestinian youth who was earlier wounded by Israeli army gunfire during a raid in Jenin.

They said that Hamad Mustafa Abu Jildeh, 24, from Jenin refugee camp, has succumbed to wounds sustained during an army raid of the city early Wednesday to demolish the family home of a Palestinian fighter.

The papers also highlighted attacks by settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank as well as the establishment of a new settlement outpost south of Nablus.

The three dailies also highlighted the critical health situation of cancer-stricken Palestinian freedom fighter incarcerated in Israel, Nasser Abu Hmeid, who is at risk of dying, and said that efforts are intensifying to get the Israeli occupation authorities to release him.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh reiterating during a meeting with a Swiss official a call on the international community to protect the two-state solution.

It said in a news feature from Hebron that by preventing Palestinians from renovating their homes in the Israeli-occupied old town of Hebron, Israel intends to force the families to leave their homes and the area in an effort to turn the homes over to the settlers.

Al-Ayyam daily said that Israel wants to put on trial Palestinian journalist from occupied East Jerusalem, Lama Ghousheh, 30, who was detained at her Sheikh Jarrah home a week ago, on charges of interviewing released freedom fighters, which the paper said is a policy aimed at intimidating and silencing Palestinian journalists in East Jerusalem.

Al-Quds said that Israel plans to build a 25-story high rise for settlers on Shufat land in occupied East Jerusalem.

It quoted Israeli observers saying that the Israeli escalation in the West Bank warns of an explosion on the ground.

The three papers also reported on the situation in the war in Ukraine and the Iran nuclear talks.
