Newspaper Review: Israeli violations focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Thursday, May 19, 2022 (WAFA) – News about the ongoing Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank, which include land seizing, detention and raids, hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Thursday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that scores of students suffocated as Israeli forces stormed a university in the northern West Bank city of Tulkarm firing tear gas canisters inside the campus. The heavily-armed soldiers broke into the campus of Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie, chased the students, showering them with tear gas canisters and causing dozens to suffocate while setting a tree on fire.

They said that the Israeli military government demolished a Palestinian-owned house in the village of Deir Salah, east of the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem, despite its location in Area A, which is under full Palestinian control. Witnesses said the army demolished the two-story house owned by Mohammad Awwad under the pretext it is located near the apartheid wall and despite the fact that the area where the house is located is under Palestinian control and the owner has an official building permit from the Palestinian side.

Israeli settlers chopped down at least 20 olive trees and destroyed agricultural crops belonging to a Palestinian resident in Masafer Yatta area to the south of Hebron, in the southern occupied West Bank, according to the papers.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestinian Presidency today warned against Israeli storming the northern West Bank city of Jenin and its refugee camp on a daily basis, the random arrests of dozens of people, allowing Jewish extremists to storm the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, announcing the construction of thousands of settlement units in the Palestinian territories, and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's statements calling on his occupation army to murder and abuse Palestinian people at their free will.

The dailies said that Israeli settlers are set to kick off the flag march, raiding Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque as well as the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah after being given the permission by the Israeli authorities.
