Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight Israeli army shooting of a Palestinian, reaction to Israeli premier's escalations

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, May 18, 2022 (WAFA) – News about the Palestinian man who was shot by Israeli gunfire near the village of Huwara, along with Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank, hit the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam dailies highlighted the story of a Palestinian man who was shot and injured by Israeli soldiers near the military checkpoint of Huwara, to the south of the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.

The papers said that photojournalist Jaafar Shtayyeh survived an attempted car-ramming attack by an Israeli settler close to Huwara military checkpoint.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily highlighted the reaction of the Palestinian presidency to the Israeli premier's escalations and incursions in the occupied West Bank.

Al-Ayyam said Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennet visited yesterday an illegal settlement in the north of the West Bank.

The Israeli military government informed three Palestinian landowners in the village of Wad Foukin, west of the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem, of its decision to seize around 40 dunums of their lands, as reported in the newspapers.

The papers said that a number of US congress members Monday introduced to the US House a bill that recognizes the Palestinian Nakba. The bill is co-sponsored by US-Palestinian congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and fellow progressives Betty McCollum, Marie Newman, Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Al-Quds quoted the director of the Waqf Department in Jerusalem saying that the Israeli police destroyed and caused damage to 30 windows in Al-Aqsa Mosque during its raids of the Muslim holy compound and there are no attempts for reconstruction work in the Mosque.
