Israeli settlers attack tree-planting event near Nablus

NABLUS, Sunday, January 09, 2022 (WAFA) – Israeli settlers today attacked Palestinian activists taking part in a tree-planting project near the village of Burqa in the occupied West Bank province on Nablus, which was taking place in memory of the Palestine Martyr Day, according to local sources.

Ghassan Daghlas, an official who monitors Israeli settlement activities in the north of the West Bank, told WAFA that scores of Israeli settlers from Shavei Shomron settlement attacked the activists under protection from the Israeli occupation army.

He said clashes erupted between Palestinian protesters and the Israeli army in the aftermath of the attack, adding that the army fired teargas canisters at the protesters to disperse them, causing cases of suffocation from gas inhalation.

Over the past month, the village has been a frequent target of daily attacks by Israeli settlers from the neighboring settlement of Shavei Shomron.

Most of these attacks by Israeli settlers, which included arsons and pelting stones on homes, occurred under the protection of the Israeli occupation army.
