Israel Demolishes Two Buildings in East Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, May 21, 2013 (WAFA) – The Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem Tuesday demolished two buildings in Jabel al-Mukaber, an all-Palestinian neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem, under the pretext they were built without a permit, according to witnesses.

They said a large police force surrounded the two buildings and prevented people from being in the area before bulldozers started to demolish them.

One of the buildings, which belonged to Abu al-Dabaat family, consisted of three floors and housed four families, and the second building was a home for the Qaq family and housed three people.

Residents of the buildings attempted to block the demolition and scuffled with the police who fired stun grenades at them. One person was arrested.

The municipality had earlier demolished another Palestinian house for the Abu Shaalan family on the Mount of Olives.
