RAMALLAH, May 12, 2011 (WAFA) - Over 7000 Palestinians were killed in the last decade as result of continuous Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people, according to the Palestinian Centeral Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).
In a report released by PCBS, 7342 Palestinians were killed in the period from September 29, 2000 until December 31, 2010.
The report pointed out that 7235 Palestinians were killed by the end of 2009, 2183 of whom were in the West Bank - 2059 males and 124 females. 5015 Palestinians were killed in Gaza; 4601 of whom were males and 414 females. The remaining number were Palestinian residents of Israel and abroad.
The report explained that 2009 was the bloodiest year in which 1219 Palestinians were killed, followed by 2002 in which 1192 Palestinians killed, while 107 were killed during 2010 including 9 Turkish solidarity activists when the Israeli army attacked the Freedom Flotilla.
According to the data given, around six thousand Palestinians are still in Israeli prisons; 820 of whom haves received multiple life sentences, as well as 37 female prisoners and 245 children that form 4.1% of the total number of prisoners. 136 prisoners have been held for 20 years; 41 prisoners have spent more than 25 years in prison and 4 prisoners have spent more than 30 years.
The report noted that from 1967 until today, Israeli forces arrested around 750,000 Palestinians including nearly 12,000 females and thousands of children. There is hardly a single Palestinian family that has not suffered from the arrest of one or more of its members.
