PCP Instructors Complete Course on Curriculum Development

RAMALLAH, March 5, 2011 (WAFA) - This week, the EUPOL COPPS’ Police Advisory Training Team attended the closing ceremonies of a 3-week Curriculum Development course provided by the Central Training Administration (CTA) to 9 Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) trainers of the Jericho Police Training School (JPTS).

The closing ceremonies took place on Thursday at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in Ramallah.

This pilot course began on February 13 and its content was based on the curriculum development training that the CTA has developed in cooperation with the Training Administration of the PCP and EUPOL COPPS. A subsequent course will be provided shortly to an additional group of 9 JPTS trainers.

The implementation of this Training of Trainers supports the Ministry of Interior’s belief that all training curriculum delivered to the Palestinian security forces should be developed according to a standardized format which is approved by the Ministry. It is anticipated that the training received by the Palestinian civil police this week will become the model for future curriculum development instruction that will be delivered to all Palestinian security forces.

At the closing ceremony, EUPOL COPPS’ lead training advisor, Satu Koivu, said that “this training is an excellent example of joint action towards the same objectives shared by the MoI, CTA, PCP and EUPOL COPPS. Together we have worked with all stakeholders to provide in-depth curriculum development training which is complementary to the training which PCP trainers have already received at Birzeit University.

She also added that “Under the MoI, and with the assistance of the CTA, we will see the synergy benefits of this training in curriculum development and spread this model to all Palestinian security forces as planned. Also we hope to get feedback from all the stakeholders on how we can continuously improve the training itself.
