Palestinian Women Play Football

JERUSALEM, October 28, 2009 (WAFA)-Ten thousand people gathered in Faisal Al-Husseini Stadium in the East Jerusalem suburb of Ar Ram last Monday for first women football match between Palestine and Jordan.

 

First time inside Palestine, first Palestinian Women Team, first Women Match in Palestine,  first experience in all sense of the word, the space was very wide, the preparations, the stadium, and very talented players from the both countries.

 

In the first term the Palestinian players were very nervous, unstructured enough, but in the second term they played in a team spirit tactic.

 

The continuous encouragement of public helped the national team despite their tension to play in harmony marking a goal in the Jordanian net.

 

FIFA instructor, Member technical and development committee, Vera Paw said: “What happened in 26 of October is a celebration, not just victory, for the women sport in the world .”

 

She added “It was overwhelming success for the Palestinian team, where they got the experience during the game, as they are playing at the first time in home. It was a great experience to the women football team.”

 

Paw said: “The existence of Palestine women team was a new start for women sport. The game itself enhanced the girls experience as well the women sports in Palestine, they played in a team work, while the Jordanian team depended on player number 16.”     

 

On behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas, Minister Mohamed Shtiyeh assisted in tribute ceremony organized by Palestine Football Association (PFA) to honor the two teams. PFA President Jebreel Rjoub said the performance of the team gives big hopes for its future. It is a historic event and a new chapter in the history of  Palestinian women, who have had  big achievements in all fields of Palestinian life.


Head of the Jordanian delegation, Mustafa Tabaa’ said it was a friendly match which ended with positive tie.
