RAMALLAH, August 27, 2009 (WAFA)- The PLO Executive Committee Elections Committee announced that Ahmad Qurei’ and Hanan Ashrawi have won two seats in the Executive Committee, in a competition with four candidates.

The members of that National Council unanimously chose Dr. Saeb Erakat, Ahmad Majdalani, Saleh Ra’afat and Hanna A’mira as members of the PLO Executive Committee, during an extraordinary meeting held at the Presidency Headquarters in Ramallah.

President Mahmoud Abbas said at the end of the meeting: “We can now say that the Palestinian Legitimacy is safe and sound, and shame on all those who await the PLO’s destruction.”

The president added, “thank God that we reached this result. It is true that we have had many differences, but the unique Palestinian democracy prevails. We have preserved Palestinian political parties.”

He pointed the possibility of holding an Executive Committee to “commence what we had promised; activating this Organization and its Executive Committee.”

The PLO Executive Committee is formed of 18 members. The President Read out their names as follows:

“President Mahmoud Abbas, Dr Saeb Erakat, Farouq Al-Qadoumi, Ahmad Qurei’, Tayseer Khalid, Abdul Raheem Mallouh, Ali Is’haq, Abu Isma’il, Hanna A’mira, Saleh Ra’afat, Yasser Abed Rabbo, Asa’ad Abdul Rahman, Riyad Al-Khudari, Ghassan Al-Shaka’a, Muhammad Zuhdi Al-Nashashibi, Zakarya Al-Agha, Hanan Ashrawi and Ahmad Majdalani.
