TEL AVIV, July 21, 2008 (WAFA) - The Israeli soldier who appeared in a video shooting at an arrested Palestinian civilian said he was following his commander's orders
'The commanding officer told me 'shoot him, shoot him',' the soldier from armored Battalion 71 said on Monday during interrogations.
The video, released by human rights group B'Tselem on Sunday and filmed by a 14-year-old girl in the West Bank village of Nilin on July 7, showed the soldier shooting an arrested Palestinian protestor in th the leg at short range.
'
The commanding officer told me he was going to assume the responsibility,' Ynet News quoted the soldier as saying.
The commanding officer, however, was not held responsible after being questioned by the military police on Sunday.
The Israeli Military Counsel protested the decision, saying 'This is a scandal. It's an attempt to place the responsibility on the soldier,' rather than the commander
