RAMALLAH, Thursday, January 09, 2020 (WAFA) – The meeting of Fatah Central Committee yesterday in Ramallah, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, and its conclusions were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today, with al-Quds daily quoting the CC in the headline on this topic saying: “We are capable of foiling all liquidation conspiracies.”
The main front-page story in al-Hayat al-Jadida focused on this meeting as well and quoted the CC saying that there will be no elections in the Palestinian territories without occupied Jerusalem being part of it “regardless of the price.”
Al-Ayyam had this topic at the lower half of its front page and quoted the CC in its headline saying: “The shady projects are a front for the liquidation of the (Palestinian) cause and start by severing Gaza.”
The main front-page story in al-Ayyam, however, quoted the US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, referring to the occupied West Bank by its Israeli name – Judea and Samaria – and saying that after the US has recognized Israel’s illegal annexation of occupied Jerusalem and the Syrian Golan Heights, it is time to do the same for the West Bank.
It said the Palestinians have condemned Friedman’s statements.
The three papers reported on their front page on Israeli settlers cutting olive trees in a West Bank village, as well as confrontation with Israeli soldiers and demolition orders of Palestinian homes.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that the Israeli occupation has changed the nature of roads in the West Bank in order to serve its settlers.
It said Jordan and the United Kingdom have condemned Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied territories.
The main front-page story in al-Quds continued to focus on the Iran-US conflict and said in its headline that Qatar was discussing de-escalation in the situation with the US, Iran, Britain and NATO.
It also reported on the Iranian missile attack on US bases in Iraq, which was reported in al-Ayyam but not on the front page of al-Hayat al-Jadida, and on the Ukrainian plane crash after takeoff from Tehran airport.
The weather conditions also received front page coverage in the dailies.
