Israeli forces quell Palestinian protest in Jordan Valley, injuries reported

JORDAN VALLEY, Tuesday, February 25, 2020 (WAFA) – Several Palestinians were injured while others sustained suffocation as Israeli forces violently quelled a peaceful protest near an Israeli army checkpoint in the northern Jordan Valley, according to WAFA correspondent and the Red Crescent.

WAFA correspondent said that the peaceful demonstration, which was called for by the anti–wall, anti-settlement committee and Fatah movement in Tubas, came to protest possible Israeli annexation of the Jordan Valley based on the so-called deal of the century unveiled in Washington by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on January 28.

Israeli forces manning a checkpoint near the village of Tayasir, east of Tubas, opened live fire and shot rubber bullets and teargas canisters at the protesters causing injuries.

The Red Crescent said its crews dealt with one case of injury in the foot by a live bullet, two injuries from rubber-coated metal bullets and several suffocation cases.

All causalities were evacuated to nearby hospital for treatment.
