Palestine seventh international marathon kicks off tomorrow

 

BETHLEHEM, Thursday, March 21, 2019 (WAFA) – Palestine seventh international marathon kicks off early tomorrow in the southern biblical city of Bethlehem with the participation of 8000 runners from 76 countries, according to the marathon organizers.

The city’s governor, mayor and police said at a press conference outside the Nativity Church in Bethlehem today that all preparations for the marathon are in place, explaining that several roads will be closed for the duration of the event.

Mayor Anton Salman said the marathon is an important Palestinian and international event and that Bethlehem is a secure and safe city, explaining that there are no obstacles in the way of holding the marathon.

Marathon director Itidal Abdul Ghani said this year’s marathon is different from previous ones in the number of participants who exceed 8000 from around 76 countries, and they include runners from the Gaza Strip, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco and Oman.

She said the percentage of women participants has exceeded the men with 59.7 percent are women compared to 49.3 percent men.
