RAMALLAH, June 10, 2017 (WAFA) – Nomination of candidates in the 65 local councils where elections were not held on May 13 began on Saturday, the Central Elections Commission (CEC) said.
Complementary elections have been set by the government for the 65 West Bank councils after they failed to submit lists of candidates for the elections held on May 13 or their lists did not meet CEC requirements.
Nomination will be conducted for the 65 councils over 10 days and the preliminary register of candidate lists will be published on June 20.
The final candidate lists will be published on July 15 coinciding with the beginning of elections campaigning for 13 days.
Polling day is set by the Cabinet on July 29 and preliminary elections results will be announced on July 30, said the CEC.
Elections were held in 145 local councils on May 13 while 181 others presented only one list that won by acclamation.
If any of the 65 local councils fail this time also to present legitimate lists, then the government will appoint councils to run those localities.
