PLO Calls on Hamas to Break Ties with Muslim Brotherhood

RAMALLAH, December 28, 2013 (WAFA) – Members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Saturday called on Hamas to break all ties with the Muslim Brotherhood movement, particularly after it was declared illegal and a terrorist organization by Egypt.

Representatives of the various PLO factions said in a radio program that Hamas should declare itself as a Palestinian national movement only just like all other political groups operating in Palestine.

The representatives warned Hamas that its ties with the Muslim Brotherhood would bring hardships on it and on the residents of Gaza, particularly after Egypt has said it will go after any group that assists the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Hamas considers itself as part of the global Muslim Brotherhood movement and has spoken openly in support of the movement in Egypt.

The Egyptian government has accused Hamas of supporting armed Islamist groups in Egypt and as a consequence closed its borders with Gaza opening them at times for humanitarian reasons.
