Palestinian and Chinese foreign ministers discuss developments in Palestine and bilateral ties

BAKU, October 15, 2026 (WAFA) — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian Shahin met today with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss developments in Palestine, international efforts to end the suffering of the Palestinian people, and ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

The meeting took place on Thursday on the sidelines of Shahin's participation in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.

Shahin expressed Palestine's appreciation for China's supportive positions on the Palestinian cause and its political and economic initiatives, projects, and assistance, describing them as a reflection of the strong bilateral relations between the two countries.

She outlined the dire humanitarian conditions facing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, stressing the need to intensify international pressure on Israel to ensure the unimpeded entry of humanitarian and relief aid, uphold the ceasefire agreement, and work toward ending the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Shahin also highlighted continued attacks by Israeli occupation forces and colonists across the occupied West Bank, warning of the threats these pose to the safety, lives, and property of Palestinians. She drew attention to attacks targeting the Chinese Road project linking neighborhoods in Ramallah, as well as attempts to consolidate the project in a way that serves colonists.

She further raised concerns over the implications of the E1 colonial settlement project, which aims to expand Israeli settlements around occupied East Jerusalem. The project threatens geographical continuity between the northern and southern West Bank and undermines prospects for establishing an independent, geographically contiguous Palestinian state.

Shahin also addressed Israel’s continued withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues, calling for pressure to secure their release to support Palestinian state institutions and strengthen their ability to address the severe financial crisis.

Meantime, Wang reaffirmed China’s steadfast support for achieving a two-state solution and stressed the need for a comprehensive political process leading to a just and lasting resolution of the Palestinian question, in accordance with international law and relevant international resolutions.
