Presidency calls UNSC to take practical measures to protect Palestinian people

RAMALLAH, October 9, 2026 (WAFA) – The Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and the Permanent Observer Mission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations called on Friday the UN Security Council (UNSC) to take practical measures to protect the Palestinian people.

They called the UNSC to urgently convene and take immediate action to provide international protection for the Palestinian people, amid the dangerous and rapidly escalating attacks by colonists and Israeli occupation forces, and their targeting of Palestinian cities, villages and refugee camps, threatening the lives, security and property of citizens and pushing the situation towards further deterioration and instability.

The Presidency affirmed that the escalation of colonists’ attacks, coinciding with Israeli military incursions, killings, destruction and forced displacement, underscores the gravity of the current phase facing the Palestinian people. It said this situation requires urgent international intervention and concrete measures to halt these attacks and put an end to the ongoing violations against Palestinian citizens throughout the occupied Palestinian Territory.

Presidential Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said the UNSC must assume its legal and political responsibilities and act urgently to ensure international protection for the Palestinian people, halt colonists’ attacks and the operations of occupation forces, and take deterrent measures to prevent these violations from continuing.

Abu Rudeineh noted that 19 colonist attacks had been recorded since Friday morning, targeting farmers, olive harvesters and their property. The attacks included setting trees and vehicles on fire, uprooting dozens of olive trees, stealing livestock and crops, assaulting farmers and preventing them from accessing their lands.

He said these incidents constitute a dangerous indication of the widening scope of such attacks and their direct targeting of Palestinians’ lives and livelihoods, as well as attempts to impose a coercive reality on them, particularly during the olive harvest season.

Abu Rudeineh stressed that colonists’ attacks are not isolated incidents but rather occur within the context of the all-out war genocidal waged by Israel’s extremist government against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, most recently resulting in the killing of dozens of Palestinians, the injury of hundreds, and the continued imposition of a total blockade.

He added that the West Bank is also witnessing continuous incursions into cities, villages and refugee camps, raids on and vandalism of homes, live fire directed at civilians and farmers, and the seizure of land and property. These acts are taking place under the protection provided by Israeli occupation forces to colonists, encouraging them to continue their attacks and expand their scope.

Abu Rudeineh warned of the dangers posed by the continued escalation and its repercussions for regional security and stability. He held the Israeli government fully responsible for the crimes and violations committed against the Palestinian people and for the consequences of its policies, which fuel violence, restrict Palestinians’ ability to sustain their lives, and target their presence on their land to forcibly displace them.

He reiterated that colonial settlement in all its forms, along with all unilateral Israeli measures aimed at imposing unlawful facts on the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, are null and void and constitute violations of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions. Such measures confer no rights whatsoever upon the occupation over Palestinian land.
