RAMALLAH, September 30, 2026 (WAFA) — The U.S Senate last night failed to advance a measure seeking an investigation into the deaths of Palestinian-American citizens at the hands of Israeli forces and colonists in the occupied West Bank, with the motion receiving 47 votes in favor and 51 against.
The measure sought to discharge S.Res. 852 from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and advance it for consideration. The resolution would require the administration of President Donald Trump to submit, within 30 days, a report on the Israeli government’s human rights practices, including information on the deaths of nine Palestinian-American citizens in the West Bank and the detention of Palestinian children in Israeli prisons.
Amnesty International USA had urged senators to vote in favor of the resolution and seek answers regarding the cases of the nine US citizens killed in the West Bank.
The organization identified the nine as Omar Assad, Shireen Abu Akleh, Tawfic Abdel Jabbar, Mohammad Khdour, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, Amer Rabee, Khamis Iyad, Sayfollah Musallet, and Nasrallah Mohammad Jamal Abu Siam, saying that no one has been held accountable in any of the cases to date.
Amnesty International said the resolution would have required the U.S administration to provide information on the cases and on Israel’s human rights practices under Section 502B(c) of the US Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.
