NEW YORK, September 29, 2026 (WAFA) – The Bureau of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People today held a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

Chair of the Committee and Permanent Representative of Senegal to the United Nations Cheikh Niang praised the Secretary-General’s principled and strong positions in defense of the rights of the Palestinian people and their full realization as swiftly as possible. He expressed the Committee’s gratitude for the support provided by the Secretary-General in fulfilling its mandate in accordance with the relevant General Assembly resolution.

Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour conveyed the gratitude of the Palestinian people and leadership to the Secretary-General for his positions and steadfast defense of Palestine, its people, and their rights, which he called for to be fully realized.

Mansour also conveyed President Mahmoud Abbas’s appreciation to the Secretary-General for his role in leading the United Nations across all fields, foremost among them the question of Palestine.

For his part, Guterres thanked the Committee for its efforts, in accordance with its mandate, to help the Palestinian people fully realize their rights.

He stressed the need to make every effort to protect and defend the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and to provide it with all necessary political and financial support to fulfill its mandate until the question of Palestine is resolved in all its aspects, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
