AL-BIREH, September 27, 2026 (WAFA) – The Central Elections Commission (CEC) said today, Sunday, that it had received a decree-law issued by President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas amending the General Elections Law and extending the nomination period for the 2026 legislative elections from 12 to 18 days, making the legal nomination period run from September 26 to October 13.

The CEC said that, in light of the amendment, it will adjust the timetable for the legal deadlines governing the electoral process in accordance with the amended law, ensuring the completion of all stages and procedures resulting from the extension of the nomination period.

It affirmed that the amendment to the legal deadlines will not affect the date set for the general election on Saturday, November 28, and that it will proceed with the elections on the date specified in the presidential decree calling for the elections.

The CEC said it will announce the amended electoral timetable and the new dates for the nomination stage and subsequent stages once the necessary legal and technical arrangements have been completed.
