RAMALLAH, September 27, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree-law today amending Decree-Law No. (1) of 2007 concerning general elections and its amendments. The amendment extends the nomination period for elections to 18 days, up from 12 days.
This amendment aligns with the difficult realities faced by the Palestinian people, who endure severe and ongoing restrictions on their movement due to the security and political situation in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.
This step aims to provide electoral lists and candidates with a longer and more flexible timeframe to overcome geographical obstacles and enable them to complete and submit their official nomination papers to the Central Elections Commission under these exceptional and complex circumstances.
