RAMALLAH, September 27, 2026 (WAFA) — The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates warned of the danger of remarks by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich calling for a war on the occupied West Bank, replicating what took place in the Gaza Strip, and dismantling the Palestinian Authority.

In a statement, the ministry said the remarks expose Israeli plans aimed at undermining the prospects for an independent Palestinian state and imposing a new reality by force in the occupied Palestinian territory, in violation of international law, international legitimacy resolutions and signed agreements.

The ministry said calls for a full-fledged war on the West Bank and the destruction of Palestinian cities and refugee camps come within the context of Israeli government policies involving killing, displacement, settlement expansion and land confiscation, as well as attempts to impose annexation by force.

It stressed that the Palestinian Authority and institutions of the State of Palestine constitute part of the Palestinian national project and an achievement of the Palestinian people on the path toward realizing an independent and sovereign state. It held the Israeli government fully responsible for the consequences of any attempt to undermine or dismantle them.

The ministry warned that continued international silence over inflammatory Israeli statements and policies encourages the Israeli government to pursue its plans and risks further tension, violence and instability in the region.

It called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council and the US administration, to fulfill their political and legal responsibilities and take immediate, concrete measures to compel Israel to end its aggression against the Palestinian people, halt settlement expansion, annexation and displacement, and protect the Palestinian people and their national institutions.
