NEW YORK, September 26, 2026 (WAFA) — Qatar called for coordinated diplomatic and media action to expose Israeli violations in occupied East Jerusalem and mobilize international pressure to halt them, while announcing work toward an institutional mechanism to monitor and document such violations and present them before international organizations and global public opinion.
The call was made by Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, during a joint ministerial meeting of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to a statement issued by Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
Al Khulaifi reiterated Qatar's rejection of unilateral measures aimed at imposing a new reality in Jerusalem and its holy sites, describing such measures as null and void under international law and relevant international resolutions.
He stressed that Al-Aqsa Mosque is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims and reaffirmed Qatar's support for the historical Hashemite custodianship of Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites. Qatar has made similar statements in recent days condemning Israeli measures affecting the historic and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa.
The Qatari call comes days after a sharp increase in the number of Israeli colonists entering Al-Aqsa Mosque. According to the Jerusalem Governorate, 1,678 colonists stormed the mosque on September 20 and 21, with 992 entering on the first day and 686 on the second, the highest figures recorded by the governorate for the occasion of Yom Kippur.
The Jerusalem Governorate said the incursions were accompanied by public and collective religious rituals, prayers and the bringing of religious books, clothing and other items into the mosque, amid what it described as attempts to impose new realities inside the holy site.
Qatar has repeatedly called for an end to measures that seek to alter the historic and legal status quo in occupied East Jerusalem and has reaffirmed its support for establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
