NEW YORK, September 17, 2026 (WAFA) – One hundred and fifty-two countries voted in favor of a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly today, Thursday, rejecting the United States' decision to prevent the Palestinian delegation from participating in the 81st session of the General Assembly and calling on Washington to reverse the decision, considering it a clear violation of the Headquarters Agreement.
The Headquarters Agreement between the United Nations and the United States, as the host country, legally obliges Washington to facilitate the entry and residence of diplomatic delegations, member states, and observers to attend General Assembly meetings without obstruction.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the resolution, expressing appreciation for the positions of all countries that sponsored it, including brotherly and friendly countries, as well as those that voted unanimously in favor of the resolution.
The Ministry emphasized that the adoption of this resolution effectively thwarts the attempt to prevent Palestine from participating in the high-level segment and the proceedings of the General Assembly.
It stressed that the voice of the Palestinian people will reach the United Nations and that President Mahmoud Abbas's address will be delivered as scheduled, at the designated time and date, via televised broadcast.
The ministry affirmed that the vote confirms the presence of the Palestinian voice and foils attempts to silence Palestine and its cause.
It noted that it continues to advocate for the Palestinian people, work toward their protection, and pursue political, legal, and diplomatic avenues to resolve the Palestinian issue. Concurrently, it remains committed to confronting and ending the occupation, its colonial policies, colonists’ violence, and other practices that undermine the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, with the ultimate goal of establishing an independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
