RAMALLAH, September 8, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Presidency welcomed the announcement by British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband before the House of Commons that the British government has decided to ban imports of products from Israeli colonial settlements built on the land of the occupied State of Palestine and impose sanctions on extremist colonists.
The Presidency described the decision as an important step toward confronting Israel’s colonial settlement system and its violations against the Palestinian people.
The Presidency commended the advanced British position, which once again affirms the illegality of Israeli colonial settlements built on the land of the State of Palestine and the need to take practical and concrete steps to hold those responsible for colonial-related crimes and colonist violence accountable.
The Presidency stressed that the decision to ban imports of colonial settlement products, alongside other measures announced by the British government, represents a step in the right direction, in line with international law and resolutions of international legitimacy, and sends a clear message that the international community will not accept the continuation of colonial settlement expansion, land seizure, and the forced displacement of the Palestinian people.
The Presidency emphasized the importance of accompanying these measures with additional and binding international action to halt colonial settlement expansion, stop colonists’ crimes, and ensure accountability for those responsible, including through the imposition of sanctions on officials responsible for these crimes.
The Presidency also welcomed the British foreign secretary’s reaffirmation of the United Kingdom’s commitment to the two-state solution and to preserving the possibility of establishing a geographically contiguous and viable Palestinian state, stressing that halting colonial settlement expansion and ending the Israeli occupation are essential conditions for achieving peace and stability in the region.
The Presidency called on all European and friendly countries to follow the British position and take similar practical measures to halt trade and economic dealings with colonial settlements and their products, impose sanctions on colonists involved in acts of violence against the Palestinian people, end the Israeli occupation, and realize the independence of the State of Palestine on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Presidency affirmed that the State of Palestine will continue working with Britain and other countries around the world to protect the rights of the Palestinian people, implement international legitimacy resolutions and international law, end the occupation and colonial settlement expansion, and realize an independent, sovereign Palestinian state.
