President Abbas and Turkish counterpart discuss latest developments, Israel’s aggression against Palestinian people

ANKARA, August 12, 2026, WAFA – President Mahmoud Abbas and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed on Wednesday the latest political developments and Israel’s relentless aggression against the Palestinian people.

During an official bilateral meeting at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, President Abbas and his Turkish counterpart Erdoğan discussed the historic Palestinian-Turkish fraternal relations, the ways to develop them in all fields, and a host of regional and international issues of mutual concern.

President Abbas commended Türkiye’s unwavering positions, under the leadership of President Erdoğan, in support of the Palestinian cause the Palestinian people’s rights at international forums, while voicing appreciation for Türkiye’s relief and humanitarian efforts in the genocide-stricken  Gaza Strip, including its efforts to provide medical treatment to wounded Palestinians.

President Abbas welcomed again the signing of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan, describing it as an important strategic step that would contribute to enhancing regional security and stability.

He briefed his Turkish counterpart on the dangerous Israeli military escalation against the civilian Palestinian population in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, manifest in the policies of colonial settlement expansion, colonist terrorism, annexation, extrajudicial killings, detention raids, demolitions, land expropriation, and attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites.

He stressed that the occupation authorities continue their aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, which remains subjected to blockade, starvation, and daily killings, despite the announced agreement to implement the second phase of the ceasefire.

President Abbas reiterated that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the territory of the State of Palestine, stressing that there can be no Palestinian state without Gaza, and that its future lies only within the framework of a single Palestinian state, with one law, one legitimate institution, and one legitimate weapon, in accordance with the program of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people.

The meeting was attended by PLO Executive Committee member Ziad Abu Amr; Fatah Central Committee member and the General Intelligence Chief, Major General Majed Faraj; Presidential Adviser for Diplomatic Affairs Majdi al-Khaldi; Chief Justice of Palestine Mahmoud al-Habbash; and Palestine’s Ambassador to Türkiye Nasri Abu Jaish.
