Red Cross facilitates transfer of 37 released detainees to Gaza Strip

GAZA, August 9, 2026 (WAFA) — The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) today facilitated the transfer of 37 detainees, including a woman, who were released and transported from the Kerem Shalom crossing to Nasser Medical Complex in the Gaza Strip. The ICRC also facilitated their communication and reunification with their families.

The ICRC said it has facilitated the transfer of more than 2,700 released detainees in this manner since 2023, noting that it has been unable to access detainees held in Israeli detention facilities since October 2023.

The ICRC stressed the need to be informed of the fate and whereabouts of all detainees and to be granted access to them. It emphasized that detainees must be treated humanely, provided with appropriate detention conditions, and allowed to communicate with their families, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

It added that many Palestinian families are anxiously awaiting any news about their detained loved ones amid concerns over their health and safety, affirming that it continues its dialogue with the Israeli authorities to resume visits to all Palestinian detainees.
