More than 58,000 chickenpox cases recorded in Gaza since start of 2026 amid worsening outbreak

GAZA, August 6, 2026 (WAFA) — Medical sources in the Gaza Strip said on Thursday that more than 58,000 cases of chickenpox have been recorded since the beginning of this year, amid a worsening outbreak driven by the catastrophic humanitarian conditions facing the population.

The spread of the disease comes as overcrowded displacement camps, contaminated water sources, the collapse of sanitation services, and severe shortages of hygiene supplies continue to fuel the spread of infectious diseases in the war-torn enclave.
