RAMALLAH, August 4, 2026 (WAFA) — The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said that Israeli occupation authorities detained 630 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, during July, as part of ongoing systematic detention campaigns that have intensified since the beginning of the genocide. The detentions targeted various segments of Palestinian society, including children, women, and former prisoners.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Prisoners’ Club said the total number of detention cases in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, has exceeded 25,000 since the start of the genocide, amid the continuation of daily arrest campaigns that constitute one of the main tools of Israeli aggression against Palestinians.
The organization said the detention campaigns have been accompanied by escalating crimes and violations, including field interrogations, violent nighttime raids on homes, systematic destruction of property, and assaults against detainees and their families through beatings, threats, and humiliation. It also reported cases of family members being held as hostages, the theft of money and belongings, as well as continued field executions, which it described as one of the most prominent forms of the ongoing aggression against Palestinians.
The town of Tell, in the Nablus governorate, was among the most notable examples of this escalation during July. The occupation forces, alongside settler attacks, carried out extensive raids, detentions, and field interrogations, accompanied by assaults on residents and the destruction of homes and property, as part of a policy of collective punishment and continued escalation against Palestinians in the West Bank.
The PPS noted that escalating settler attacks have contributed to expanding the scope of detentions, particularly in villages and towns targeted by settlement activities, where dozens of Palestinians have been detained during repeated settler attacks carried out under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.
Regarding the situation of Palestinian prisoners, the organization said that the number of prisoners held in Israeli occupation prisons exceeded 9,400 as of the beginning of August 2026. Among them are around 370 children and 92 female prisoners, while the number of administrative detainees reached 3,198. It added that 1,358 detainees from the Gaza Strip are being held under the Israeli designation of “unlawful combatants.”
The PPS affirmed that the Israeli prison system continues to intensify organized violations against prisoners through policies of torture, starvation, denial of medical treatment, and solitary confinement. It warned of the continued spread of diseases and epidemics due to harsh detention conditions, amid Israel’s continued prevention of the International Committee of the Red Cross from resuming prisoner visits and the denial of their basic rights, further increasing the daily threats to their lives.
