JERUSALEM, August 4, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities on Tuesday completed the demolition of properties belonging to Palestinians Nabil Jumaa and Samir Jumaa in the town of al-Tur, east of occupied Jerusalem, after the owners had been compelled to demolish the structures themselves nearly two months ago under Israeli threats, pressure, and administrative measures.
The Jerusalem Governorate said Israeli bulldozers returned to the site and completed the demolition despite the earlier self-demolition of the properties, describing the move as part of an ongoing policy aimed at forcing Palestinian Jerusalemites to destroy their own homes before Israeli authorities carry out additional demolition work and impose further heavy fines on the owners.
During the demolition operation, Israeli forces assaulted the property owners and several residents present at the scene. One Palestinian sustained a serious eye injury and was transferred to a hospital in Jerusalem for medical treatment.
The Governorate said the incident in al-Tur forms part of a systematic Israeli policy targeting the Palestinian presence in occupied Jerusalem through home and property demolitions, restrictive measures, and the use of discriminatory planning and permit policies to pressure Palestinians into leaving the city.
It stressed that the policies of demolition, forced displacement, and assaults against residents would not succeed in uprooting Palestinians from their land and homes, reaffirming that Jerusalem remains an Arab Palestinian city and that attempts to alter its demographic and geographic character will not change the fact that Palestinians are its rightful inhabitants.
The Governorate called on the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations to assume their responsibilities by providing protection for the Palestinian people and holding Israel accountable for violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
