BETHLEHEM, July 30, 2026 (WAFA) — Released Palestinian detainee Rizq Shakarneh, 47, from the town of Nahhalin, west of Bethlehem, said he suffered fractures and multiple injuries as a result of torture during his detention in Israeli prisons.
Shakarneh told WAFA that Israeli forces detained him following the demolition of homes and structures in the town. He said he was held for eight days, during which he was subjected to severe physical abuse despite suffering from pre-existing health problems and was denied necessary medical treatment.
He said his condition had seriously deteriorated by the time he was released on Wednesday evening, leaving him unable to stand or move. He was taken directly to hospital after suffering severe pain throughout his body and chest that prevented him from sleeping.
According to Shakarneh, medical examinations and CT scans revealed fractures to his ribs, bruises, and multiple injuries to his head and other parts of his body, which he attributed to severe beatings and abuse while in detention. He also said that his beard was forcibly shaved and that he was subjected to systematic starvation throughout his detention.
