TUBAS, July 29, 2026 (WAFA) — Israeli forces began on Wednesday demolishing an artesian well in the Atouf and Ras al-Ahmar area, southeast of Tubas.

Moataz Bisharat, the official in charge of the Jordan Valley file in the Tubas Governorate, reported that Israeli forces began demolishing the entire artesian well belonging to Saleh Naji Bani Odeh. The well itself had already been filled in with earth two weeks ago, and its water pumps were destroyed, rendering it inoperable.

Abdullah Bisharat, head of the Atouf and Ras al-Ahmar village council, affirmed that the well being filled in had its pumps and electrical panels damaged by the occupation forces, along with two other wells in the same area, two weeks earlier. All three wells had ceased functioning since then.

He explained that the three wells supplied water to approximately 7,500 dunams of land in the al-Baqi’a plain.

The Atouf and Al-Baqi’a plains have suffered significant agricultural losses since the beginning of this year, following the commencement of land-clearing operations by Israeli authorities to implement the “Crimson Thread” project. This colonial scheme aims to construct a military road and a separation wall on Palestinian-owned land in the Tubas and northern Jordan Valley governorates.

As a result of the ongoing land-clearing operations since the beginning of the year, occupation bulldozers have uprooted trees and crops from hundreds of dunams of land in the Al-Baqi’a and Atouf plains.

They have also damaged main agricultural water pipelines, leading to water cuts affecting 30,000 dunams of the Al-Baqi’a plain and the destruction of their crops. This represents one-third of the plain’s total area of ​​96,000 dunams.
