RAMALLAH, July 26, 2026 (WAFA) — President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday sent letters to a number of leaders of Arab and friendly countries, the European Union, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, and the President of the United Nations Security Council, calling for urgent international action to stop the ongoing Israeli military aggression and Israeli colonist violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
In his letters, President Abbas said the occupied Palestinian territory is witnessing a dangerous escalation due to continued attacks by Israeli forces and armed colonist groups against Palestinians, resulting in hundreds of civilian casualties, the destruction of property, the burning of homes, religious sites, trees and agricultural land, and attacks on Palestinian villages and communities, under the protection and direct support of the Israeli military and government.
The President said the situation has gone beyond isolated incidents of violence, describing it as a systematic Israeli policy aimed at creating new realities on the ground through settlement expansion, escalating colonist violence, and undermining and weakening the Palestinian National Authority, thereby deliberately jeopardising the prospects of a two-state solution and threatening regional security and stability.
President Abbas warned that these policies are intended to displace Palestinians from their land and cautioned against the serious consequences such actions could have for regional tensions and international efforts to achieve peace.
He called on the international community to fulfil its legal and moral responsibilities by taking urgent and practical steps to pressure the Israeli government to stop colonist attacks, hold those responsible accountable, halt all settlement activities, implement relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which affirms the illegality of Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory, and provide international protection for the Palestinian people while ensuring Israel complies with its obligations under international law and international humanitarian law.
President Abbas also reaffirmed the State of Palestine's commitment to a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, international legitimacy, the rejection of violence and extremism, and cooperation with international partners to promote security, stability and peace in the region.
